National Heritage Board – Kebaya Quest Game

Year: 2024

Client: National Heritage Board

Agency: National Heritage Board

Our collaborative efforts came to life in the sound design for Kebaya Quest, a project proudly developed in partnership with the National Heritage Board. Set within a lively town celebrated for its exquisite kebayas, the game’s sonic identity was shaped to evoke warmth, curiosity, and cultural vibrancy for upper primary students. Beyond building a rich auditory palette, we meticulously designed each sound to elevate the player’s journey—from the gentle chimes accompanying interactions with artisans to the bright, encouraging cues that reward students with coveted kebaya coins. These “User Interface Pop Up Sounds,” crafted for actions such as navigating dialogue, selecting materials, or completing quests, were intentionally shaped to ensure every interaction felt intuitive, delightful, and seamlessly woven into the world of the game.

As the soundscape unfolded through layers of bustling marketplace ambience, delicate fabric-rustle textures, and a thoughtfully composed musical backdrop inspired by regional traditions, the user interface sounds played a pivotal role in grounding the experience. Each sonic element was deliberately created to guide players through their exploration of kebaya craftsmanship, history, and cultural symbolism. Our commitment to detailed, culturally resonant sound design ensured that every moment within Kebaya Quest not only supported learning, but also celebrated Singapore’s shared heritage with neighbouring countries—transforming the game into an immersive and meaningful journey through the art and identity embodied in the kebaya.
